Willows Area-Wide Traffic Study

The City of Menlo Park has turned to TJKM for solutions to the complex,
long-standing traffic issues surrounding the Willows neighborhood.

Cut through traffic volumes and speeding throughout the sector are major concerns for Willows Area residents.  TJKM project objectives include identifying the most effective traffic calming strategies, managing vehicle speeds and volumes, and improving safety in the area for vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians.  TJKM understands the importance of involving the residents and the public, and gaining community support.

Under the direction of Project Manager Joy Bhattacharya, TJKM will:

  • Engage the community through a series of surveys, interview and meetings, and summarize results
  • Develop publicity and “meeting in a box” materials that will include electronic newsletters, fact sheets, presentations, feedback forms,  and website materials
  • Collect and analyze new traffic data
  • Develop and prioritize specific traffic calming strategies for the study area
  • Prepare the Final Willows Area-wide Traffic Study

TJKM conducted a traffic study for the same area in 1991.  Since that time, new development, the closure of a US 101 on-ramp, and increased crime in surrounding neighborhoods have all had a substantial impact on the study area, and have resulted in significant transportation issues.

Project Manager Joy Bhattacharya comments:

“We will work with the community and City staff to implement traffic calming measures in the Willows neighborhood to improve the residents’ quality of life.  Residents have been looking for a solution for more than 15 years, and we intend to bring that solution to them.  Our approach emphasizes community engagement and with support and input from the community, we will have a final consensus implementation plan.”

TJKM has provided traffic calming solutions for dozens of neighborhoods.  For solutions to your neighborhood and residential traffic challenges please contact Joy Bhattacharya at 925-463-0611 or at jbhattacharya@tjkm.com.
