City of South San Francisco Turns to TJKM for critical Traffic Impact Study and Model for Expanding Biotech Region
News > City of South San Francisco Turns to TJKM for critical Traffic Impact Study and Model for Expanding Biotech Region
The City of South San Francisco has selected TJKM to perform the critical East of SR 101 Traffic Study.
The approval of the Genentech Master Plan calls for six million square feet of development in the area roughly bounded by East Grand Avenue, Allerton Avenue, Forbes Boulevard, and The Bay, and continues the land use intensification in South San Francisco. The new development will affect and impact most South City streets in the East of 101 area, the 101 Corridor, and other nearby areas.
TJKM will:
- Measure existing conditions at 30 intersections
- Create a dual function, updatable, generation and gravity traffic model to generate, distribute, and assign traffic from new development for multiple land use scenarios
- Analyze the combined traffic
- Determine and prioritize mitigation measures
TJKM will also design systems for updates of the traffic model and for collection of data for Caltrans for 101 Corridor improvements. TJKM will also prepare a Truck Route Study to assist the City with development of restricted truck routes in the
SR 101 area.
Project Manager Rich Haygood states:
We are eager to develop the new traffic model as a valuable traffic analysis tool that will be used to inform the decisions of South San Francisco City leaders regarding future development in the East of 101 area, the cradle of the exciting and expanding biotech industry. We expect the traffic analysis will help the City of South San Francisco to shape and prioritize the transportation improvements that will be needed to accommodate future growth, including productive coordination with Caltrans to improve freeway ramp connections in the 101 corridor.
