Civic Center Master Plan, Foster City

Civic centers are hubs of activity.  They are also a reflection of the community they serve.  Often home to emergency services (police and fire departments) and sometimes recreational facilities (aquatic centers and ball parks), civic centers generate a variety of activity throughout the day, after-hours and on the weekend.  When the City of Foster City decided to greatly expand their Civic Center, the City hired TJKM to perform a comprehensive traffic study.  The 36-acre Center Master Plan integrated public and private facilities including Civic Center facilities, the Peninsula Jewish Center and the Peninsula Episcopal Academy.  TJKM evaluated peak hour traffic operating conditions at 21 intersections and determined if traffic generated by the project would degrade conditions at any facility to unacceptable levels.  TJKM identified appropriate mitigation measures to alleviate traffic congestion resulting from the construction of this project.  Later, TJKM worked with the City in implementing the Plan, which included new traffic signal installations and signing and striping improvements.

TJKM has worked on over one dozen civic center master plans.  Contact Chris Kinzel at ckinzel@tjkm.com to learn how this expertise can help you.
