City of Palo Alto

The City of Palo Alto needed solutions for parking, access and circulation challenges related to redevelopment in the Midtown commercial complex, located near downtown Palo Alto. Midtown also had inadequate off and on-street parking, spillover of parking onto adjacent neighborhood streets, hazardous and inefficient circulation issues within the complex, unsafe ingress and egress at parking lot driveways and traffic impacts associated with commercial development. The City hired TJKM to find solutions that could address all of the challenging issues. TJKM’s recommendations included identification of locations for additional parking, installation of bike racks to accommodate more bicyclists, modifications to an existing pedestrian traffic signal, changes to the lane configuration of Middlefield Road and other such measures that would assist with parking, access and circulation.
