Stanford Avenue Calming and Parking - City of Palo Alto

Traffic Calming > Stanford Avenue Calming and Parking - City of Palo Alto

Many residents and visitors of Palo Alto utilize Stanford Avenue east of the Foothill Expressway near the prestigious Stanford University. Stanford Avenue is a major artery within the City and also provides access for many people who hike the "Dish Area" in the foothills above the Stanford campus. Speeding, noise, parking nuisances, school safety and other similar issues concerned the City of Palo Alto and the County of Santa Clara. TJKM was retained to complete a thorough analysis of traffic circulation and safety problems on Stanford Avenue and prepared recommendations for improved traffic in the area. The recommendations were accepted by the community, the City and the County and included the construction of a "raised intersection" at the signalized intersection of Raimundo and Stanford, construction of separate walkways, pedestrian landings and other improvements to better channelize traffic away from pedestrians and bicyclists.
