Parking Planning and Policy Development
Quite commonly, a driver’s first impression of a city is dependent on their parking experience. The success of businesses and vibrancy of a downtown largely depends on the availability of safe, convenient, and affordable parking. When it comes to new developments, parking plays a key role in numerous deciding factors including size, footprint, financing, and attractiveness of the new development to potential clients. Over the last four decades, TJKM has provided parking solutions in more than 500 studies. Parking studies generally evaluate increased demands for existing projects, or the potential for parking generated by a new development, and then recommends solutions for parking requirements.
TJKM has completed parking studies for office buildings, shopping centers, residential developments, hospitals and medical facilities, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and other transit stations, civic centers, major universities, and other institutional uses.
We have also conducted numerous downtown-area parking and circulation analyses. For these often high-profile community projects, TJKM collaborates with city staff, community and neighborhood groups, and other stakeholders to determine specific issues and develop implementable solutions. TJKM often works with other consultants, such as architects, civil engineers, and financial planning firms to evaluate the feasibility and cost of making improvements to existing parking structures, such as electronic guidance systems.
